CLASH DETECTION SERVICES

Clash detection is the realization of conflicts or clashes of a new design project through an automated and computerized analysis of multiple 3D models. Finding these clashes are vital as they could severely impact the construction process causing delays, design changes, increased material costs and a cascade of headaches or budget overruns.

Clash detection services for building projects.

A clash detection service helps reduce project errors in ongoing or completed model work before construction occurs. In our experience we have seen utilising clash detection services with 3D coordinated models have the following benefits;

  • Reduction in errors.

  • A safer construction site due to accurate estimates in all stages of construction.

  • Reduction in overall costs, material waste and mitigated risk.

  • Improvements in scheduling and sequencing.

  • Increase in productivity and quickening of the construction process

Our typical process

A range of disciplines come together to work on different aspects of a construction project. Using the architect’s base model as a starting point each discipline will create a model containing the design of their system. Through our 3D Coordination capabilities, we will integrate these separate designs into one as-designed model so that automated clash detection processes can be carried out.

There are 3 main types of clashes that this service seeks to identify:

  1. Hard Clashes: when two elements share the same space (i.e. pass through each other)
  2. Soft Clashes: clashes which occur when elements encroach into geometric tolerances of other elements
  3. 4D/Workflow clashes: involve clashes of contractor scheduling, equipment and material delivery and general workflow timeline conflicts

Clashes identified will be presented to relevant stakeholders in a report from which the design team can determine who and what needs to be redesigned before construction can commence.

Before 3D coordination can be complete any 2D design drawings of different systems will need to be converted into a 3D model. Realserve can achieve this through its 3D modelling services. Once all systems have been accurately modelled Realserve can begin the coordination process.

Coordination is achieved using Autodesk’s Navisworks software, where all the individual design models are combined into a single as-designed model. This as-designed model can then be used to complete clash detection. Realserve are then able to give access to this coordinated model through tools such as BIM 360 which will allow the design team to reduce the number of Request for Information (RFI’s) associated with a normal design process. As re-designs occur the coordinated model can be updated, and further clash detection completed.

Our team utilises the latest surveying technology to capture our data then produce all our outputs. Using the latest CAD software programs everything is captured and processed accurately to start producing the relevant drawings, plans or reports. The equipment we use is state of the art, ranging from traditional total stations to 3D laser scanning or RPA (drone). We only use the latest software tools including AutoCAD & Revit.

Once our plans are drafted they go through an intensive QA process via an independent audit to ensure that what we have captured is delivered to the highest levels of accuracy possible.

In summary;

  • Initial consultation to ensure we can meet your needs.
  • Agree on a scope of work.
  • A site visit is organised with one of our qualified technicians with the necessary data collection equipment.
  • All data is then processed via our team located in one of our offices around the Country.
  • All plans or drawings are then independently reviewed via our QA process.
  • All deliverables are then created for viewing in PDF, AutoCAD or Revit.
  • We also have the ability to create a 3D scan or virtual tour of your property to create a fully interactive view of a site.
